SVMIN – Rytons Slim Vent® Minor (Cavity Vent/Weep)

General Details

Description:

Rytons Slim Vent® Minor (SVMIN) is a perpend cavity vent for airflow and moisture drainage, featuring an open-faced design for high ventilation and a discreet, flush finish.

Features and Benefits:

  • The ORIGINAL perpend cavity ventilator for use in timber frame and traditional build.
  • Open faced to give maximum airflow and prevent clogging by paint and airborne debris.
  • Huge airflow allows fitting at the maximum 1.2m centres in Scotland and approximately every third brick to NHBC Standards, giving a cost efficient advantage.
  • Unique internal water baffles and specially tapered surfaces prevent water transfer and make the vent an effective weep hole for drainage.
  • Clean lines maintain the aesthetic appearance of the building.
  • Use Rytons DamRyt Slim Vent® Protector DAMSLIMVENT to protect the outlet from dust and debris during construction or blockage during rendering.

Important: This is a plastic component and is not suitable for use in the following:
a) external walls of buildings over 11m high where people sleep, whether residential, institutional or hospitality; or
b) external wall surfaces within 1m of a boundary where the building is 11m high or less, in England.

For a compliant alternative, see Rytons A1® Fire-rated Slim Vent® Major with Flyscreen part of Rytons A1® Fire-rated Range.

Size:

102mm L x 66mm H x 10mm W (allows a 6mm venting gap).
CAD drawing available by email.

Free Area:

356mm² per unit.

Colours:

Clear.

Composition:

High impact polystyrene.

Installation:

Installation is fast and easy as work proceeds, with the Slim Vent® replacing the vertical mortar joint.

Lower ventilators should be placed below the DPC, unless cavity trays are used, in which case they should be positioned above the tray. Where vents are installed above and below horizontal fire stops, they should be vertically staggered. See below for spacings.

Reference Material:

  • NHBC Standards 6.2 – External timber framed walls
Install every 656mm (approximately every 3rd brick). A drained and vented cavity should be provided to reduce the risk of rain penetration. Where areas are divided by horizontal cavity barriers, openings should be provided to each section equivalent to open brick perpends every 1.2m. This equates to 650mm² free air every 1.2m (approximately 1 × SVMIN every 656mm or 3rd brick). Proprietary perpend ventilators should be used to provide drainage of the cavity.
  • The Building (Scotland) Regulations – Domestic, Section 3.10.6 (Masonry outer leaf)
Install every 1.2m (approximately every 5th brick). Cavities should be vented to external air using ventilators with at least 300mm² free opening area at 1.2m maximum centres. This equates to 1 × SVMIN every 1.2m or approximately every 5th brick. Cavities should be drained through weep holes where precipitation penetrates the outer leaf.
  • British Standards BS 5250
Refer to current guidance for cavity wall ventilation and moisture control.
  • Important note
Not all manufacturers’ weep holes provide adequate ventilation. Always check the free air area and verify spacing requirements before installation.
